Our gallery is named after former member John
De Haan, a member of the Bankstown Art Society for over a quarter of a
Throughout those years he worked unstintingly
for the Society, becoming a committee member almost from the day he joined.
Fellow-members remember his generosity,
especially the sharing of his artistic experience.
His special interests were portraiture, the
process of glazing, and his great joy of encouraging beginner artists.
The Society’s aim to set up a permanent
gallery was a project dear to John’s heart and when he died suddenly in 1993
the members unanimously decided to name the gallery the “De Haan Gallery”.
In recent years we have been honoured to have
Daryl Melham as our gallery patron.
